Swagbucks Review

If you’ve read my Inbox Dollars review, you know that I’m a sucker for making a quick buck (or two) during my lunch break, or while watching TV at home after a long day at the office. Arguably the premier website in this niche is a site called SwagBucks. If you are considering signing up for the site, stop and read my review before you give out your personal information, and I’ll do my best to describe my personal experiences with the site, as well as outline the various ways you can earn rewards.

First and foremost, it’s important to understand that the site does not reward users with cash, but instead provides its users with SwagBucks (SB’s), a form of virtual currency that can be exchanged for products, rebates, or gift cards to stores like Target or Amazon.com. Users can earn rewards by performing set actions on the site, or by winning them randomly through repeated use of the sites functions.

Your First Swagbucks

To earn your first SB’s, join the site through my affiliate link and you’ll be rewarded with 500 SB’s just for filling out your personal profile. This is the equivalent of $5 USD, as each one is worth approximately $0.01 (or 100 SB’s per dollar). After that, set the main search site as your homepage and you’ll be well on your way to earning SB’s for periodically browsing the site.

Swagbucks Search and Toolbar

The most convenient way to earn SB’s, using the built in search engine, is also the most helpful. Powered by Ask.com and Google, the results are exactly what you would expect from a quality search site. For every couple of searches, you will win a random amount of SB’s, which are automatically added to your account.

If you don’t want to make the website your homepage, Swagbucks has a custom toolbar that you can install, which brings the search tool right into your main browser. The toolbar operates just like the main search, but allows you quick access to the search functions without having to navigate back to the main site.

Swagbucks Surveys

Swagbucks also offers paid surveys that are custom selected for you based on the information in your profile. The nice thing about the survey layout is that they are provided directly on the main website and you don’t need to visit anywhere else to fill them out. If you are a person who is interested in getting paid to state your own opinion, you may choose this option. The surveys provided to you by Swagbucks are not complex ones and you can easily make money by filing them, but be warned that I’ve had a couple instances of spending 5-10 minutes on a survey, only to be rejected from the survey before I can get paid.

Swagbucks Shopping and Special Offers

My personal favorite, the Swagbucks shopping marketplace is by far the most rewarding area of the site. Offering fantastic payouts, this marketplace has everything and anything you could possibly be searching for. What I typically use this site for is for making purchases that I would already be making on another site. For example, if I know I need to book a flight and/or hotel for vacation, rather than go directly to Travelocity or Hotels.com, I will first search for that site in the Swagbucks store. Buying the exact same thing I was planning on buying anyways, I could earn $20-$50 (or more!) dollars in SB’s as a bonus just for taking an extra 10 seconds to find the link on their site. Can’t beat that!

Note that the site is not limited to just travel products. Some of the biggest store names are here, such as Macy’s or Walmart, where you can buy clothing, electronics, and even food all through the marketplace! You can choose to buy these products with either cash (just like you would in the store), or by using your SB’s themselves.

Swagbucks Special Offers

If shopping online isn’t your forte, Swagbucks does periodically have special offers that are available from time to time. Typically these will just be simple sign up offers that don’t require any personal info, just your email address. It is also possible for you to find a daily “No Obligation Special Offer” available in the marketplace, which can have additional random payouts. Typically these payouts are pretty low (since the signup is so easy), but it’s a good way to make some spare change if you are already interested in the product they are promoting.

Swagbucks Daily Polls

By far the easiest way to earn SB’s, the site also offers daily polls that a fun way to interact with the other site members. These are typically single question type polling questions like “who will win the World Series” or “who is your favorite Super Hero”, but sometimes have questions relevant to the site, that Swagbucks can use to improve the functionality of the program or make changes based on user feedback. The payouts are low, but if you take a couple seconds and do them each day, it can really add up over time, and it’s always fun to see what other users think of every day topics.

Swagbucks Trade-in Program

Definitely a unique feature that I haven’t seen anywhere else before, Swagbucks even offers a trade-in program for old gaming consoles or mobile phones. You can select the make / model / year of your item, and Swagbucks will give you a proposal for a trade in value. If you agree, you simply mail it in and get your SB’s automatically in your inbox. A great way to make some cash, and much better for the environment rather than through these items into the trash can. (I will offer a caveat that I haven’t personally tried this service. If you have, please comment below and let me know how the process worked for you and if you recommend it to others!)

Swagbucks TV

In addition to the Swagbucks toolbar, you can also download the Swagbucks TV app, which rewards you for watching videos on your mobile phone. While the videos themselves are often fun to watch, I’ve heard many other people who plug in their phone at work, launch the app, and let it play in the background during the day. As Swagbucks can only offer this service if their advertisers find value in these promotions, please don’t abuse this method and try to watch the videos as much as possible. Besides, who can complain about getting paid to watch TV?

Swagbucks Referral Program

Last but not least, you even earn SB’s by inviting your friends to join the site. For every successful referral, you will earn 10% of all SB’s they ever earn, with no cap! If you keep on inviting more people to Swagbucks, you will get the opportunity to earn even more rewards points.

For example, let’s assume that you invite 15 of your closest friends and family members to the site and 10 of them choose to join and actively use the site. On average, each of them earns 1,500 SB’s a month, which is a total of 15,000 SB’s each month for your referrals. You earn 10% of them, so you get 1,500 SB’s for yourself, which is equivalent to $15 a month, EVERY month, for doing nothing! Now imagine if you invite your coworkers or other friends, and double or triple that number… it can really add up fast!

Final Take

If you are looking for an easy and fun way to earn some extra income each month, consider giving Swagbucks a try. Whether you enjoy taking surveys, making online purchases, or performing web searches, there are many different ways to make money on the site. As a member of the site, I’ll continue to use and promote the many wonderful opportunities that Swagbucks offers.
